The 2013 Art and Design postgraduate exposition at Nottingham Trent University will feature creative talent from countries including China, India, Brazil, Thailand, Japan, Ireland, Holland, Africa, Turkey and Spain.
Over 180 artists and designers will be showcasing their work in September and October, including local artists from Nottingham, who will also have their work on display. The event marks the completion of the designers’ postgraduate education.
Carol Jones, head of Masters courses for the School of Art & Design, said: “Our cohorts comprise of different backgrounds, cultures and age ranges, from 25-65, helping to provide a significant creative community.”
Diverse portfolio
The postgraduate exhibition takes place from 23 September to 4 October at Nottingham Trent University’s City site, with students from the School of Art & Design and the School of Architecture, Design and the Built Environment exhibiting at the event.
A diverse portfolio of work will be on show including photography, fine art, graphic design and visual communication, fashion, knitwear and textile design, film practice, puppetry and digital animation. Architecture, product design and smart design will also be part of the exhibition.
3D printing
Research in to how 3D printing can help to shape the future of tailor-made medical products will feature at the exposition.
The work is by MSc Smart Design student Susanne Bruijnzeel, from Holland. Suzanne’s aim is to enable the printers to create a seamless finish by allowing them to rotate products while printing them, rather than printing them statically in layers.
Me?Waste?
Fernanda Rizzo is a Brazilian student, who will be exhibiting her Me?Waste? project at the exhibition, which is a public announcement campaign designed to demonstrate how brands can successfully deliver complex messages and create engagement.
It highlights the importance of designing interactive solutions on topics such as sustainability and encouraging behaviour change.
Movie stills
MA Photography student, Bo Li, from China, has created high-end fashion shots for her final piece. The images that are styled to reflect movie stills have been influenced by her background in film making whilst incorporating the skills and techniques that she has developed on her course.
Local talent
Local artist and MA Creative Collaborations student, Rosemary Maclennan’s work is focused on educating and engaging the community.
Rosemary said: “My practice is based on intervention in society and community collaborations. I want to give those people in a community, who would not ordinarily be able to express themselves through art, the opportunity to explore their creative side. The MA has enabled me to facilitate this and has encouraged me to evolve my own work.”
