Leading circular knitting machine builder Mayer & Cie. is reporting strong sales of its D4 2.2 HPI high production interlock machine.

“Latin America is one of the most important sales markets for our D4 2.2 HPI interlock machine,” says Horst Maier, Mayer & Cie. sales manager for South America. “It is the region where demand for the D4 2.2 HPI is growing strongest.” Most orders are from Argentina and Brazil, where it is the best-selling Mayer & Cie. circular knitting machine of all. Customers in Peru and Central America also place regular orders for the D4 2.2 HPI.

World’s most productive interlock machine

Maier attributes the popularity to the D4 2.2 HPI’s extraordinary productivity. With up to 34 rpm (on a 30-inch frame) it has “no equals in the world for processing staple or filament yarns,” he says. “Productivity is the decisive factor for plain interlock. Just like plain single jersey fabric, it’s the quantity that counts,” Maier says. “Interlock,” he adds, “is in the double-bar sector what plain single jersey fabric is in the single-bar sector,” he adds.

The right circular knitting machine for (nearly) every knitter

Interlock fabrics are similar to plain single jersey in their variety of uses. They range from outer to underwear, which is why Mayer & Cie. sees the D4 2.2 HPI as the right choice for nearly every midrange to larger circular knitting factory.

Two D4 2.2 HPIs will roughly achieve the output of three machines with 3.2 feeders

Eight-lock machines are often available in sufficient number and the customer has to decide whether to buy a machine with 3.2 feeders or a D4 2.2 HPI. He will benefit in several respects from the fact that the latter is more productive with 4.4 feeders per inch, the company says.

“Two D4 2.2 HPIs will roughly achieve the output of three machines with 3.2 feeders,” Horst Maier says. “So those who opt for the D4 2.2 HPI will save space and require fewer employees. There will also be less need for wear materials and consumables.”

Wider bandwidth for gauges and frame variations

Another telling argument in the D4 2.2 HPI’s favour is the range of frames with which it is available. They include industrial and open width frames. In the X version, the D4 2.2 II X, the interlock specialist comes with a more robust frame and an electronic takedown.

There is also an increasing range of gauges. D4 2.2 HPI users will soon be able to knit gauges of up to E32 – with further options to follow.
