Logica, a Modena, Italy based software developer, with long experience in the textiles sector, has developed a new and innovative software package called PaintKnit, which it will demonstrate at ITMA 2023 in Milan from 8-14 June. PaintKnit is an application which allows easy design in a very intuitive way, resulting in highly realistic knit simulation.

“It was in fact very difficult to have a real simulated result of a simple drawing or sketch. PaintKnit has advanced instruments to draw, and a very large stitches gallery already prepared, that can guide users, including non-experts to create very complex knitting simulations. Users can also easily add new stitches to the gallery,” Logica’s CEO Stefano Savoia said.

PaintKnit is suitable for a wide range of users, such as 3D CAD designers, stylists, and knitting machine programmers

“Rendering of these patterns allows to simulate a large variety of stitches in a realistic way, having many combinations such as single jersey, double jersey, Jacquard with more colours also transfer jacquard, structures and cables, fully fashion, rib with tuck, and many more other stitches,” Mr Savoia added.

“It’s possible to rotate camera with both front and back view of the Simulation being a true 3D, see it applied on a mannequin too (for example to show it) or seeing the whole scene by virtual reality using Oculus or other devices.”

With PaintKnit it is possible to create colour variations, using a sophisticated tool for the colours’ choice, with the possibility to choose from a palette with suggestions about the most recent cloud colour trends, and also from internet images. It also allows you to adjust the colour harmony, ensuring correct balance and also to explore colour, hues and tints in a useful and intuitive way.

Realistic simulation

In Simulation it’s possible to apply many different kinds of yarns from a large gallery already included in PaintKnit, or easily adding new yarns from a scanner - this can lead to very realistic results.

“In PaintKnit development we gave much importance to rendering speed, in fact all functions, such as colour variations, image panning, and changing yarn, are calculated in real time, also with very big patterns,” Stefano Savoia explains.

“PaintKnit can give real and evident advantages about sustainability,” Savoia adds. “In fact, with the realistic Simulation with various stitches and yarns, the user does not need to make all patterns on the knitting machine, saving much time and raw materials,” he says.

Suitable for a wide range of users

PaintKnit is suitable for a wide range of users, such as 3D CAD designers, stylists, and knitting machine programmers. Additionally, it can be used by 3D designers, character artists and fashion designers, to create collections directly from Metaverse platforms to present realistic clothing options.

SelfTryOn

PaintKnit SelfTryOn, allows you to create projects and take them to the next level with a realistic view of the garment being worn by personalised avatar, applying textures in real time, enhancing characteristics with photorealistic rendering. Sampling is thus simplified, and ideas get to the style department, shops and showrooms faster.
