The 55th edition of Munich Fabric Start, alongside The Source, Bluezone, and Keyhouse, reaffirmed its position as a cornerstone of the European fashion industry. Over two action-packed days, January 21-22, 2025, the event welcomed 625 international exhibitors showcasing around 1200 collections for the Spring.Summer 26 season.
This year’s themes, Floresence, The Core, and Techknowledge, resonated strongly with visitors and exhibitors, focusing on the interplay of creativity, technology, and sustainability. The event highlighted key innovations while addressing the cautious yet ambitious mindset of the market.
Bringing together industry leaders
Sebastian Klinder, Managing Director of Munich Fabric Start, shared his insights: "Despite the challenging market, we’re receiving positive feedback. Our targeted approach and show-in-show concepts connect key players to foster innovation and strategic collaboration."
Creative Director Frank Junker added: "The market is divided. There’s a desire for newness, yet hesitation to take risks. With Floresence, The Core, and Techknowledge, we aim to inspire bold choices and fresh perspectives."
Trend themes driving the future
The seasonal theme Floresence explored the concept of blooming, not only in nature but also in creativity and innovation. Its five sub-themes - Betterverse, Unorthodox, Inventing Paradise, Fragile, and Lasting - examined the intersection of artificial intelligence, timeless beauty, and sustainable practices.
Volker Orthmann and Katharina Majorek, members of the trend team, noted: "We’re addressing the balance between strength and fragility, modernity and romance, questioning consumer behaviour while celebrating innovation."
Bluezone
The Bluezone segment brought together 70 international denim mills under its key theme, The Core, which emphasized trends like Deconstruct & Reconstruct and Green Minimalists. Industry collaborations, including ISKO x bluesign and Lycra x C&A, showcased advancements in sustainable processes and fabric innovation.
Tilmann Wröbel, trend researcher at Bluezone, commented: "Brands need to evoke love and attention. Creating desirability is a shared responsibility across the value chain."
Workshops and presentations, such as the Denim Masterclasses by Mohsin Sajid and David Shah’s keynote on ‘Quantum Fashion’, provided attendees with a forward-thinking perspective on design, sustainability, and emotional engagement.
Keyhouse
Keyhouse integrated with Bluezone, served as an innovation hub where mass-market brands met startups and pioneers. Key discussions included textile recycling scalability, new sustainable materials, and the emotional connection to technology.
Curator Simon Angel summed it up: "The synergy between Bluezone and Keyhouse is unmatched, creating a ripple effect of sustainable innovations throughout the industry."
Positive momentum amid caution
Despite the tense and price-sensitive market, exhibitors reported increased visitor frequency and meaningful interactions. Notable trends included muted pastels, innovative blends of viscose and linen, and decorative elements like embroidery and shimmering effects.
Industry experts praised the trade show’s ability to provide inspiration and networking opportunities. Annette Schrewe, Head of Design at Betty Barclay, highlighted: "We were impressed by the feminine, flowing fabrics and innovative textures. Powder tones and royal blues stood out for summer."
Looking ahead
With a 4% increase in visitor numbers, the event successfully engaged brands and buyers from over 58 countries, solidifying its position as a must-attend platform for the global fashion industry.
Mark your calendars for the next trade show, View Premium Selection, which will take place on June 24-25, 2025, showcasing Autumn.Winter 26/27 trends.
