The device comprises: a path for a working yam (FL); a yam guide (33A) for the working yarn; a retention member (57) for retaining an auxiliary yam (FA); a support (35) for the auxiliary yarn, which is mobile between a waiting position and an operative position. Moreover provided is a tensioning member (53) for tensioning the auxiliary yarn (FA). The working yarn (FL) acts on said tensioning member, to which the auxiliary yarn may be engaged so that the auxiliary yarn remains tensioned as long as the working yam is intact
