Flat knitted lace fabrics and garments manufacturer G. H. Hurt & Son is one of 205 organisations to be recognised with a prestigious Queen’s Award for Enterprise. The Nottingham based company has been recognised for its excellence in international trade and for its outstanding growth in overseas sales over the last three years, UK Fashion & Textiles (UKFT) reports.
Currently employing 12 people, G. H. Hurt & Son was established in 1912 and continues a local Nottingham tradition, designing and making knitted lace pieces with both a baby knitwear collection and an adult knitwear collection.
Director Gillian Taylor, commented: “It’s a real privilege to receive this recognition. The Queen’s Awards are seen as one of the most prestigious UK business awards, so we are extremely proud. It is a brilliant reward for the staff, as without their hard work, the business would not have achieved this.”
“We have always been a creative and innovative business, in terms of our knitted lace. Our challenge in recent years has been to innovate and develop international markets and this award shows we are heading in the right direction”.
“In the past few years, the whole team has worked really hard with new international stockists as well as our existing retail and distribution partners to grow the international side of our business. We have also strived to build our online branded presence globally. Most importantly, our great design and production staff have worked consistently, making our lacy shawls and scarves to the high standard we set for ourselves. Without everyone’s efforts, we would not have achieved this award.”
“I would like to say a thank you to all our amazing customers around the world. We have been exporting Nottingham, one piece of knitted lace at a time, to over 100 countries and we could not be more proud.”
G. H. Hurt’s Richard Taylor added: “We would like to credit UKFT as instrumental to our award offering a long list of assistance that directly influences our achievement with growth in international markets.”
Now in its 55th year, the Queen’s Awards for Enterprise are the most prestigious business awards in the United Kingdom, with winning businesses able to use the esteemed Queen’s Awards emblem for the next five years.
