This report provides vital data and analysis of trends in national, regional and world clothing imports and consumer expenditure on clothing and footwear.
The report focuses in particular on clothing imports, consumer expenditure and trends in five key emerging markets, namely Egypt, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines and Romania. According to the latest global data, world clothing imports fell in 2016 for the second year in succession. As a result, imports were at their lowest level since 2012.
Nevertheless, there was strong growth in imports into several markets during the year, including Algeria, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Hungary, India, Israel, Jordan, Morocco, Poland and Thailand.
In 2017 consumer expenditure on clothing and footwear is estimated to have risen in most of the major economies. Furthermore, consumer expenditure is expected to grow in many of the major economies in the five years to 2022.
