Black, white, all shades of grey and a subdued pixel look are the visual attributes which are generally associated with information and instruction couched in printer's ink, that is to say, with newspapers. The product developers at Karl Mayer have made use of the way that the paper carriers of headlines and reports with a short half-life look and created the sports clothing featured right on its basis. The two-colour effect featured below is the result of using dope-dyed yarn.

The sports outfit combines a sleeveless T-shirt with close-fitting shorts, elements of fauna with graphic symbols and the beautiful with the functional – all in one unit. As the design is completely seamless, the garment permits movement without chafing seams and with maximum freedom, a perfect fit and, in addition, great dimensional stability. Even long spells of training cannot affect the elasticity or close-fitting nature of the garment. Zones at the sides of the trunk and upper thigh areas ensure that the athlete does not sweat too much. The mesh segments of different porosity which are located in the appropriate places and provide comfort ensure measured temperature and moisture control, assist performance, and also look extremely effective.

The broad, open-mesh stripes at the sides of the trunk are flanked in each case by an arrow head which runs down to the leg opening in a large-format openwork pattern. The air bubble design is interrupted by the wing beat of a stylized butterfly on the upper thigh – an attractive optical synthesis of the natural and the abstract. Two black horizontal bands divide the upper and lower parts optically, again draw attention to the natural silhouette, and form an optical symbiosis with the black leg, neck and arm borders. An extremely modern sports outfit which can also be produced extremely efficiently. The plus points regarding an efficient production process include minimum making-up costs on one hand and the knitting technology used on the other.

Two-bar raschel machines of the DJ or RDPJ series in E24 gauge are used to produce the sports outfit. The narrow Seamless Smart models include the 44” DJ 4/2 and its extension, the 44” DJ 6/2.

Both machines are characterized by a high operating speed, maximum product quality, and flexible application. The technical basis for this is laid by the patterning capacity of the two ground bars and two or four jacquard bars, the proven piezoelectric technology for controlling the jacquard needles, KAMCOS with Multispeed, and electronic beam drives. This is dynamic, compact production equipment which ensures a good figure and is also interesting from the point of view of purchase costs. With lower investment costs and an optimum cost/benefit ratio, the models in the narrow series are the opposite numbers to the RDPJ, which is available with a working width of 138”.
