Reasons for the closure cited by Chairman Rich Stober and President Sally Kay are the economic volatility and increased globalization of the hosiery industry, which have caused consolidation within the organisation’s membership.
Additionally, membership demographics are said to have changed. Some companies have diversified the types of products they sell (both hosiery/non-hosiery). Most companies have fewer employees and time for active involvement in association activities has become more challenging. The requested needs and services within the current membership have become decentralized.n These factors, Stober and Kay say, have led to a steep decline in membership.
To continue to serve the existing hosiery industry, the Association has made an arrangement with the American Apparel and Footwear Association (AAFA) to form a Legwear Committee.
The announcement added that the Association will transfer its sock/sheer sizing forms to the Manufacturing Solutions Center, formerly known as The Hosiery Technology Center.
