Matress ticking supplier Bekaert Textiles, with world headquarters in Waregem, Belgium, has acquired Spanish competitor Enbasa Laval.
Enbasa is a knitted and woven mattress fabric supplier based in Sant Boi de Llussanès, Spain, with an additional sales office in France and will continue its existing business, while acting as a production and distribution hub for Bekaert in south-west Europe.
Bekaert said its current customers in the region will benefit significantly from increased local production and warehousing facilities, as well as shortened lead times. Existing Enbasa Laval customers will benefit from the stability Bekaert brings to Enbasa during Europe’s current depressed economic conditions and from the Belgian company’s extensive product range and design capacity, according to the company. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
As well as producing knitted and woven tickings Enbasa has also (about 15%) specialized non-ticking activities. The family owned business, currently owned by Xavier Ballús and his family, is the result of the merger between Enbasa (Spain) and Coutils de Laval (France). The company employs close to 80 employees and has a plant and offices in Sant Boi de Llussanès (Spain) and also has a sales office in France.
With this strategic step Bekaert Textiles says it wants to express its trust in the South-Western European markets and increase its market share in what the company considers to be strategic home markets.
