Following its recent restructuring and launch as a new company, producer of specialist polyester yarns, Trevira GmbH says it can report a successful first year in business.
The German company reports that all of its important product segments showed signs of progress in the improved economic situation and capacities that were adjusted during restructuring have been well exploited. Growth was not only limited to Europe but also occurred in other important target markets as well, such as the USA and Asia, the company said in a recent statement to the press.
Trevira says that, more than anything else, it was the specialty business that rallied again in 2010, performing on the whole above expectations. With the addition of fibres made from Ingeo biopolymer now in its range, the company says it is offering customers not only a genuinely new product, but it is also illustrating its commitment to sustainability.
Trevira’s business in flame retardant fibres and yarns is also said to have recovered well after the crisis, borne primarily by good volumes in Germany and Italy, the main sales markets for those products. Manufacturers of fancy yarns also play an important role as multipliers and as suppliers of the base materials for a number of innovative fabric looks and new collections. Trevira says it has been possible to extend the range at this level, including for chenille and KDK yarns.
Less pleasing for Trevira however, is the considerable turbulence and price fluctuations in raw material markets, which have brought great challenges in their wake in the second half of 2010 and required an appropriate response. For 2011 further expansion of the portfolio of specialties is on the agenda for Trevira. The strong market position of flame retardant fibres is said to be further strengthened by focused trademark controls and also by the search for new markets and possible applications, including in technical sectors. A core theme for Trevira CS here is the ongoing development of materials for interior sun screening.
