Lenzing Group is partnering with Italian chemicals manufacturer CPL Prodotti Chimici and Oniverse, the owner of the well-known fashion brand Calzedonia, to introduce biobased acetic acid as the basis for fabric dyeing.
Lenzing’s biorefinery makes optimal use of wood as the starting material for pulp and fibre production and as a by-product, biobased acetic acid has a carbon footprint that is more than 85% lower than fossil-based acetic acid. It is used in the food, pharmaceutical, cosmetics and chemical industries, as well as in textile processes such as washing, dyeing and finishing.
The new collaboration will enable Oniverse not only to base its textiles on Lenzing’s cellulosic fibres, but also employ its biobased acetic acid for fabric dyeing.
“Thanks to its high purity and low carbon footprint, our biobased acetic acid plays a central role in many industrial processes,” says Elisabeth Stanger, senior director for biorefinery and co-products at Lenzing. “This strategic alliance underlines the industry’s trust in our biorefinery products.”
“Our partnership with Lenzing, which has been based on trust and respect since the early 1990s, has always maintained a high level of quality,” adds Marco Lanzetti, owner of CPL. “As the first license partner for Lenzing’s biobased acetic acid, we are proud to be able to promote Lenzing as a brand to our customers, such as Oniverse, in the textile market.”
