Leading Italian jersey knitter Maglificio Ripa, a pioneer in beachwear and sportswear since 1952, has developed a new collection of jersey fabrics with Sensil ByNature, the premium nylon 6.6 fibre produced by Nilit.
The collection, part of the Earth line for summer 2025, will be previewed at Interfiliere Paris (July 2-4, 2023), Maredimoda Miami (July 9-11, 2023) and MarediModa Cannes (November 7-9, 2023).
“Fabrics that push the limits of sustainability in textiles, reduce dependence on fossil fuels and carbon footprint, and promote the use of renewable raw materials;” a Maglificio Ripa spokesperson said. “A revolutionary project that takes the concept of sustainability to the next level. Using a certified Biomass Balance (BMB) process, which BASF pioneered, this technology replaces partial fossil feedstock with renewable feedstock.”
This technology greatly improves the carbon footprint of a garment product and moves the apparel industry closer to a more sustainable position, the company adds.
Unlike conventional nylon yarn produced from fossil raw materials, this approach uses renewable resources, such as biogas derived from waste, which are used as raw material at the very early stages of the production process. The amount of bio-feedstock is then allocated to specific products sold through the certified method.
Using the ISCC plus certification, Sensil ByNature reduces greenhouse gas emissions and decreases dependence on non-renewable resources. Clothing made with Sensil ByNature fabrics offers consumers a meaningful way to help reduce their carbon footprint while maintaining exactly the same comfort, performance and durability they expect and get from Sensil brand products today.
"Sensil ByNature will significantly reduce our industry carbon footprint, while providing the highest quality fibre for apparel,” says Sagee Aran, Chief Innovation & Sustainability Officer at Nilit. " This is the kind of radical development the textile industry needs to effectively and rapidly reduce its environmental impact and move to a more responsible position in the global marketplace."
"Our approach to sustainability is radical, and runs through the entire value chain, from energy supply to fabric delivery and packaging. We are always attentive to real innovations in our industry, and Sensil ByNature fully responds to our values and what customers are asking of us. We are introducing this collection that is part of our Earth line in the next few days because we think it can be the beginning of a cultural change," says Luca Bianco, CEO of Maglificio Ripa.
The exceptionally durable and wear-resistant products can be reused and recycled to make a further contribution to textile sustainability and circularity, at later stages of the garment life cycle when they are no longer needed.
Nilit's biomass balance approach is ISCCplus certified and Sensil ByNature yarns are made to Oeko-Tex standards.
