Mayer & Cie. advances automation
Mayer & Cie., the leading manufacturer of circular knitting machines, has installed the fourth of five state-of-the-art DMG Mori CNC lathes at its Albstadt facility. The major investment underscores the company’s ongoing commitment to automation, efficiency and consistent product quality.
The new lathes handle a range of manufacturing processes including turning, drilling, grinding and thread cutting. These operations are essential for producing key components such as support rings and needle beds - core elements in the machine head of every circular knitting machine. “By automating these work steps, we have brought another core area of our production to a cutting-edge level,” said Managing Director Benjamin Mayer.
The company has already seen success in automating other parts of its production. Around three years ago, Mayer & Cie. modernised its needle bed hardening process by replacing its manual induction system with a fully automated laser-controlled solution. The result was an improvement in quality, energy efficiency, and overall process performance.
Benjamin Mayer emphasises that automation is a long-term strategic focus. Future investments will target further areas of production and quality assurance. “New technologies help us to automate repetitive and demanding activities,” he explained. “This allows us to work faster and more accurately – and we are less dependent on staff shortages.”
As automation continues to evolve within the company, Mayer & Cie. remains dedicated to precision engineering and innovation, ensuring that its circular knitting machines meet the highest standards of reliability and durability.
