Santoni is evolving its renowned seamless knitting technology with a new selective terry SM8-TOP2ST single jersey electronic circular knitting machine. The new variant of the Santoni SM8-TOP2V, through an innovative and patented mechatronic device, is the first ever seamless knitting machine to produce garments with needle-by-needle and sinker-by-sinker selective terry (full electronic selection of the sinkers).
The SM8-TOP2ST is an 8-feed machine with 2 points of selection needle-by needle per feed, which is available in 13-to-20-inch diameters in gauges 24, 26 and 28.
The machine keeps all of the main TOP2V specification and fabric possibilities, but also offers the capability to make sculptured terry patterns. Selective terry can be placed in any area of a garment, improving technical-functional performance.
The resulting tubular knitted seamless garments can either be worn in a conventional way with the terry on the inside or can be turned inside-out to have the terry on the outside of the garment. On the one hand, having the terry on the inside of the garment provides a cushioning function, providing greater softness, comfort and breathability.
On the other hand, the terry, being placed outside the garment, enhances it especially from an aesthetic point of view. The selective terry provides high added value mainly to technical garments, such as those presented at Santoni’s preview at the recent ISPO 2023 show.
