Surya Spinners, which operates two spinning mills in Vellakovil in southern India, has installed a Rieter UNIblend A 81 precision blender as it responds to increasing market demand for its products.

Established in 2010, Surya produces recycled rotor yarns in a range of yarn counts from Ne 6 to Ne 40 which are used in the production of knitted and woven garments. The recycled fibres are pre-opened for spinning with an in-house tearing unit and the company now has an annual production capacity of 7,500 tons.

Surya previously encountered significant challenges in ensuring consistent blend quality as a result of its manual mixing process for 70% recycled cotton and 30% polyester, which was prone to human error, and also needed to accommodate future requirements for producing different blends simultaneously.

The fully automated UNIblend A 81 supplied by Rieter is now ensuring consistent blend quality before the fibres are  fed to a bale press and prepared for the two spinning mills.

Surya Spinners believes it can now double its production as a result of precise blending within a tolerance of 1%, and also make considerable energy savings.

“The implementation of the UNIblend A 81 has revolutionised our blending process, eliminating the need for manual intervention and ensuring consistent blend results day after day,” says Surya director Thiyagarajan Kuppusamy. “This is helping us to solidify our position as a formidable player in South India’s recycled yarn manufacturing business.”
