This spring, the sustainable fashion brand Reformation introduced a new swimwear collection made with Evo bio-based yarn by Fulgar, Made in Italy excellence in high-performance man-made yarns.

This is the latest category launch from the Los Angeles based brand, which has a mission to bring sustainable fashion to everyone.  Reformation combines vintage-inspired designs with eco-friendly business practices, releasing twice-weekly, limited-edition collections online and in its retail locations around the world. While sustainable measures are incorporated into every aspect of its operations, the company’s efforts ladder up to two hero commitments: becoming Climate Positive by 2025 and Circular by 2030. Its products have been climate neutral since 2015 and the business has been Climate Neutral Certified since 2021.

These values are further underscored by the choice of Fulgar as materials partner for this project – Fulgar has a long-standing commitment to the development of processes and products that will reduce the environmental impact of fashion textiles.

In the words of Kathleen Talbot, Chief Sustainability Officer and Vice President of Operations at Reformation: “We shouldn’t turn fossil fuels into fabrics, which is why we’ve committed that all synthetics – both virgin and recycled – will compose less than 1% of our sourcing by 2025. This is particularly challenging to achieve in a category like swim, which is why we’re so proud to offer our customers a plastic-free alternative in partnership with Fulgar.”

Evo by Fulgar is a 100% bio-based yarn obtained from renewable resources like the castor oil plant - which grows spontaneously in arid regions of the world. The plant can thrive on small amounts of water and does not take up land that could be used to cultivate food crops – and waste corn that is not suitable for human consumption. The biomass that Evo by Fulgar is based on comprises castor oil or industrial corn, and the monomers used in the polymerisation process are derived entirely from renewable sources. Evo by Fulgar yarn also offers the same characteristics as the finest polyamide but has a green heart. Suitable for all textile applications from sportswear to legwear and swimwear, it is high-performance, lightweight, stretch and breathable. It is rapid drying, non-iron and boasts natural thermal and bacteriostatic properties.

“We are excited to be working with such an interesting brand as Reformation as it continues to drive innovation within sustainable fashion, made possible in this instance by the potential of our ecological yarns. It’s an important recognition of our well-established commitment to ecologically aware research and development that aims to create an ethical, circular and increasingly sustainable sector, which also includes swimwear”, says Daniela Antunes, Marketing Manager of Fulgar.

Fulgar is the international leader in the synthetic fibre sector, producing and distributing nylon 66 and covered elastomers in the textile and technical fabric sectors. Launched in the late 1970s at Castel Goffredo (Mantova), in Italy's hosiery region, Fulgar has carved out a position as sector leader on the international scene, confirming its international approach with new production centres and installations.

Over the past ten years the company’s investment in R&D has seen constant growth. A commitment to environmental issues has also contributed to its success, expressed through projects and initiatives involving the entire production chain and sustainable products like Q-Nova regenerated yarn, bio-based Evo yarn and Q-CYCLE, the result of the interaction between BASF's ChemCycling project and Fulgar's textile expertise.

Fulgar is present in all sectors of the textile industry, from hosiery to circular knits, intimate wear, beachwear and sportswear, offering excellent products that stand out for their quality and uniqueness, while always respecting Made in Italy textile tradition.

Its versatility is the result of design, development and manufacturing processes that also provide a response to client demand in the context of use and comfort. Fulgar is the exclusive distributor in Europe and Turkey of the Lycra Fibre, Lycra T400 and Elaspan Fibre brands. In 2012 Fulgar also forged a partnership with the Solvay group, becoming distributor and producer of EMANA fibre and Amni Soul Eco mainly for Europe, North Africa and the Middle East.
