Shima Seiki USA, the North American subsidiary of Japan’s Shima Seiki MFG. Ltd., is hosting a private show at the Manufacturing Solutions Center in Conover, NC, from 5-7 March 2024.
The flat knitting and knitwear solutions leader will exhibit its SWG091N2 ‘Mini’ WHOLEGARMENT knitting machine in 13 gauge, its new SPG-R 07G pile glove knitting machine, and the company’s highly regarded APEX4/APEXFiz Design System. A full range of the latest knitted samples will also be on show.
Mini WHOLEGARMENT machine
Shima’s single system SWG091N2 Mini WHOLEGARMENT knitting machine with its 36-inch (90cm) knitting width is especially suited to knitting a wide variety of items including accessory items as well as childrenswear and smaller size garments, all without the need for linking or sewing afterwards.
The machine features Shima’s original SlideNeedle, Rapid Response R2carriage system, Top Tension, Yarn Inserting Hook, Spring-Type Movable Sinker System, Auto Yarn Carrier, Air Splicer, i-DSCS+DTC, Touch-sensitive control panel and colour display. The SWG Mini is available in a range of knitting widths and gauges.
Next-generation pile glove knitting machine
Completely revamped, SPG-R now features a new sinker system, belt-driven carriage and auto yarn carriers. The new setup gives it the capability for more colours and improved design potential and offers customers the opportunity to enter markets other than work gloves, with warm and fashionable gloves and mittens with rich pile fabric.
An extremely durable needle bed is accompanied by a removable needle selection drum and the machine is available in gauges 7 and 10.
SDS-ONE APEX4 and APEXFiz
SDS-ONE APEX4 3D apparel design system and APEXFiz subscription-based design software support the creative side of fashion from planning and design to colourway evaluation, realistic fabric simulation and 3D virtual sampling. Virtual samples are a digitised version of sample making that are accurate enough to be used effectively as prototypes, replacing physical sampling and consequently reducing time, cost and material that otherwise go to waste.
When a design is approved for production, knitting data which is automatically generated can be converted easily to machine data, allowing smooth communication for digitally bridging the gap between design studio and factory. Before going to production however, the same virtual samples can be used in retail, for example in e-commerce, to gauge consumer response to items before going to market, effectively realizing production based on demand forecasting.
In such a way, inventory can be optimized to minimize deadstock waste. SDS-ONE APEX4 and APEXFiz therefore help to realise sustainability while digitally transforming the fashion supply chain.
