Report summary
This latest update in this series of reports provides a comprehensive overview of the trends which were on show at the editions of Pitti Immagine Filati and Première Vision Yarns for the spring/summer 2021 season. Overall, the atmosphere at the European yarn fairs for spring/summer 2021 was overshadowed by economic uncertainties affecting the whole of the textile and fashion industry, as well as the outbreak of COVID-19.
However, spinners are continuing to diversify their portfolios, and a number of innovative collections were presented at the fairs. Natural fibres are important for the spring/summer 2021 season, and many spinners are focusing on cotton, linen and hemp. Other key natural fibres for the season include alpaca, cashmere and wool, which are being used in fine yarns for summer knitwear.
Man-made cellulosic fibres are also being widely used, and are being incorporated into several creative blends. Environmental sustainability remains important, and many spinners are focusing on the utilisation of fibres derived from recycled waste materials and on improving the sustainability of their operations. Innovative design effects are also important for the season, alongside fancy yarns and yarns with sparkling details.
