Monforts, the German textile machinery specialist, is set to demonstrate the full capabilities of its advanced coating and finishing technologies for technical textiles at Techtextil North America, taking place from 6–8 May 2025 in Atlanta, Georgia. Alongside its US representative PSP Marketing, Monforts will exhibit within the VDMA German Pavilion at stand 3231 in the Georgia World Congress Center.
The company’s versatile MontexCoat units, when used in tandem with Montex stenters, enable the production of an impressive array of technical fabrics. These include tents, tarpaulins, awnings, blackout roller blinds, sail cloth, automotive interiors and medical disposables. The system supports a broad spectrum of coating methods, such as full PVC coatings, pigment dyeing, minimal application surface treatments, and solvent coatings under explosion-proof conditions. Techniques like knife, roller and screen coating can be performed, with rapid changeovers designed to maximise energy and material efficiency.
“There has already been terrific interest in the MontexCoat and the range of different techniques it enables, and we’re far from exhausting its potential uses,” said Achim Gesser, Monforts Area Sales Manager, who will be attending the Atlanta show. For less complex requirements, Monforts also offers the dedicated and economical coaTTex unit, focusing on air knife and knife-over-roller coating.
At the Monforts Advanced Technology Centre (ATC) in Mönchengladbach, Germany, a complete MontexCoat unit is integrated into a pilot line specifically for technical textiles. This facility allows customers to trial new fabrics and coatings on an industrial scale, processing materials at widths up to 1.8 metres. The line supports high-precision applications and can perform dual-sided coating at different temperatures in a single pass, thanks to TwinTherm burners that allow a temperature variance of up to 60°C within the same chamber.
“This is particularly useful for floorcoverings or blackout blinds, where one side requires treatment at a different temperature to the other,” Gesser explained. “We can also handle applications such as PTFE-coated filter media or PVC foams with this technology.”
The ATC line also includes a high-capacity stretching device capable of exerting up to ten tonnes of force in both length and width directions – a critical feature for the production of robust technical materials, including high-temperature filter media and 3D knits.
Additionally, Monforts offers the T-max grease-free stenter chain, ideal for high-temperature operations up to 320°C, with speeds of up to 100 m/min and transverse tension reaching 2,500 N/m. This solution ensures maintenance-free running and eliminates grease marks on fabrics.
Gesser emphasised the universal needs of technical textile manufacturers across sectors: “Our European-built Montex stenters provide maximum finishing efficiency, and many are running 24 hours a day. Whether for airbags, flame-retardant barriers or spacer fabrics, our customers rely on these machines.”
Highlighting the importance of the event, he concluded, “Techtextil North America is a very important show for us. North America is one of our major markets, and we are looking forward to reconnecting with customers at this always-vibrant show.”
