UNIFI, Inc., the makers of REPREVE and a global leader in sustainable synthetic yarns, has released its 2024 Sustainability Snapshot, highlighting significant progress in textile-to-textile recycling. This report underscores the company’s commitment to achieving its 2030 sustainability goals while garnering industry recognition for its innovative products.
A key driver of UNIFI’s progress is the expansion of its circular textile solutions, including REPREVE Takeback, the largest portfolio of performance circular polyester, and ThermaLoop, an award-winning thermal insulation product. The company has now recycled the equivalent of 950 million T-shirts in textile and yarn waste and is on track to reach 1.5 billion by 2030. Additionally, 42 billion plastic bottles have been diverted from landfills, moving towards a goal of 50 billion by December 2025.
UNIFI has also achieved an 8% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions, with a target of 30% reduction by 2030. Its sustainability efforts include zero non-compliant water discharges and a commitment to environmental responsibility at all production levels. REPREVE, UNIFI’s flagship recycled fibre, contributed 32% of the company’s 2024 revenue and is expected to exceed 50% by 2030.
The company has invested in third-party peer-reviewed life cycle assessments (LCAs) for REPREVE Takeback staple fibre and ThermaLoop. These studies demonstrate significant environmental benefits over virgin polyester, including reductions of 42%-77% in greenhouse gas emissions, 47%-84% in energy consumption, and 46%-71% in freshwater usage.
ThermaLoop’s circular innovation has earned industry acclaim, winning the 2024 Just Style Award for Product Launch – Circularity and the 2025 SEAL Sustainable Product Award. These accolades highlight UNIFI’s leadership in sustainable textile solutions and its role in advancing circularity within the apparel and textile industries.
The 2024 Sustainability Snapshot reaffirms UNIFI’s commitment to supporting global brands in achieving circular economy goals while setting new benchmarks in recycling and sustainability. The company continues to push the boundaries of waste reduction and innovation to ensure sustainable manufacturing remains scalable and impactful.
