Leading circular knitting machine builder Mayer & Cie. has launched a number of new developments recently amongst which is the German company’s HPI (High Productive Interlock) version of its well proven D4-2.2 II machine. The machine is reported to be selling well in India and Turkey, with one buyer in India recently ordering 12 machines.

The D4-2.2 II is basically a 2.2 feeder per inch machine which is suitable for producing high quality rib, interlock and other structures with up to 4 needle tracks in the cylinder and two in the dial. With a conversion kit it is possible convert the machine into a 4.4 feeder interlock machine – (4.4 feeders at 34” diameter means 148 feeders production at 30 rpm).

The machine is equipped with full ceramic yarn carriers and the same needles as Mayer’s OV 3.2 QC machine, a well known and leading 8-lock machine. The needles in question are said to be produced by Groz-Beckert in a huge quantities, reflecting the number of machines in the market. Accordingly the needle price is low which Mayer says makes production costs lower than with competitors machines.

According to Mayer, the D4-2.2 II produces around 330 kg per day at a 135 gsm fabric weight.

“The D4-2.2 II has everything it takes for optimum knitting quality also in conjunction with elastomer plating. Scope for extension to up to 4 needle tracks lends it an outstanding degree of flexibility,” says Mayer’s Sales Director Wolfgang Mueller.

With all the possibilities opened up by 4 needle tracks, the D4-2.2 II is capable of knitting the whole range of popular double jersey interlock and rib structures. The cylinder and dial can be quickly and reliably removed and exchanged with the company’s Quick Change system.

Application areas for the D4-2.2 II include outerwear, sport & leisure, technical textiles, underwear and nightwear. Knittable structures include interloop, interlook / structure, rib / structure and spacer.

The D4-2.2 ll in version HPI (High production interlock) is available in the following configurations:

  • Diameters: 30",  34"*
  • Gauges: E22 - E28
  • Feeders: 4.4/inch (132 feeders at 30")
  • Speed: 1.35 m/sec (34 rpm at 30")
