Speaking at the recent ITMA Asia + CITME 2010 in Shanghai, Mayer & Cie. chief Rainer Mayer told Knitting Industry that the company was now working flat out to meet strong demand for its single and double jersey circular knitting machines.

Mr Mayer said that the company was in the final stages of its restructuring and was already working at 60% of its former capacity. The Albstadt based business shed almost half of its workforce in November last year after filing for insolvency after orders plummeted in 2008 and early 2009.

“The order situation had been improving steadily since late last year and particularly around November which was ironically around the time that the company had to file for insolvency. Demand has picked up even more in the past few months right across our machine range and in a number of markets, particularly China,” Rainer Mayer said.

Combined versatility and high performance

In Shanghai Mayer & Cie. showed two versions of its S4-3.2 single jersey technology in new configurations, one for striping and one for fine gauge single jersey. The recently launched S4-3.2R single jersey striper was on show in a 24 gauge, 34 inch diameter, 108 feed configuration, offering 3 colour striping with 3.2 feeders per inch as well as 6 colour striping with  1.6 feeders per inch and is equipped with Mayer’s MCT striper technology.

What is new here is that the striper non-knit feeders can simply be replaced with knitting feeders giving 3.2 feeders per inch for basic single jersey fabrics. Mayer says the machine is suitable for both fashionable striped fabrics and for high performance single jersey output without stripes, in 2 or 4 needle structures and plated single jersey. The S4-3.2R is available in gauges 18, 32 and 36 in 26, 30 and 34 inch diameters. Mayer says the machine represents high quality at an attractive price.

The second Mayer & Cie. model on show at ITMA Asia +m CITME in Shanghai was a 34 inch S4-3.2 in 44 gauge with 108 feeders. The machine offers quality knit fabrics in single jersey, in 2 and 4 needle structures and in plated single jersey. Until the show the machine was offered in gauges 18, 32 and 36 gauge and is now offered in 44 gauge. The S4-3.2 can also be configured to knit 3 thread fleece and includes high output at 35rpm with a 30 inch diameter. Diameters offered are 26 – 38 inch.
