Abstract of WO2008078415
A method for selecting a needle and a weft knitting machine in which knitting efficiency can be enhanced by reducing the running stroke of a carriage. When only a cam system (4b) on the right side is used and a cam system (4a) on the left side is not used, a section of preliminary needle selection is provided at the right side end of the knitting width as shown by slant lines. Setting and control of the section of preliminary needle selection are performed by means of a controller (62). In the section of preliminary needle selection, first stage needle selection is performed by a needle selection mechanism (5b) which follows the cam system (4b) when the carriage (3) moves to the right. When a following needle selection mechanism (6a) enters the section of preliminary needle selection, it is controlled by the controller (62) so as not to break a preliminary needle selection state.
