Gildan Activewear Inc. marked two major milestones earlier this week as its President and CEO, Glenn J. Chamandy, rang the Opening Bell at the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE). The event commemorated the company’s 40th anniversary and its 25 years of being listed on the NYSE. Chamandy was joined by senior leadership, Board Chairman Michael Kneeland, and Mélanie Kau, Chair of the Corporate Governance and Social Responsibility Committee.

With a legacy spanning four decades, Gildan has distinguished itself as a leader in vertically integrated manufacturing. From sourcing U.S. cotton to overseeing the production process from start to finish, Gildan’s operational model reflects a commitment to sustainability and ethical practices. The company has built its reputation not only on the quality of its products but also on its dedication to worker well-being, community engagement, and environmental innovation.

“As we celebrate 40 years, I’m reminded of the incredible contributions of our employees and the trust of our stakeholders,” Chamandy stated. “This milestone reflects our growth, innovation, and the positive impact we’ve had in our communities. Looking ahead, I am confident in our ability to remain at the forefront of our industry through our Sustainable Growth strategy.”

The Opening Bell ceremony, held at 9:30 a.m. Eastern Time, was a symbolic moment for a company that has grown into one of the largest producers of basic knitted apparel globally. A replay of the event is available on Gildan’s website.

Gildan is a global leader in the manufacture of everyday apparel, offering products such as activewear, underwear, and socks, which are sold to a diverse customer base that includes wholesale distributors, screen printers, retailers, and global lifestyle brands.

Operating in North America, Europe, Asia Pacific, and Latin America, Gildan manages a portfolio of brands, including Gildan, American Apparel, Comfort Colors, and Peds. Its vertically integrated manufacturing facilities are strategically located in Central America, the Caribbean, North America, and Bangladesh, allowing for efficiency and quality control.

Gildan’s business strategy incorporates a comprehensive ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) framework. The company emphasises responsible labour practices, environmental stewardship, and governance across its operations and supply chain.
