The Aid by Trade Foundation (AbTF) is set to host the annual Good Cashmere Standard (GCS) Conference on 25 and 26 March 2025, in Hamburg’s iconic Speicherstadt district. This event promises a deep dive into key topics shaping the future of sustainable cashmere production, including animal welfare, biodiversity, supply chain transparency, and the innovative application of virtual reality.
The conference will convene industry leaders, researchers, fashion brands, and sustainability advocates from around the world. With a mission to foster dialogue and collaboration, the two-day event provides attendees with insights into the latest trends in the cashmere sector and an opportunity to strengthen networks across the supply chain.
Since its establishment in 2020, GCS has become a benchmark for responsible cashmere production, championing the welfare of over 4 million cashmere goats and enhancing working conditions on more than 9000 farms, primarily in Inner Mongolia. Major global brands, such as H&M, Galeries Lafayette, and The White Company, rely on GCS-verified cashmere, signalling a growing commitment to sustainable practices in the textiles industry.
The 2025 conference aims to amplify this momentum. Participants will explore key topics like biodiversity preservation, animal welfare, and due diligence in supply chains, with a special focus on the transformative role of virtual reality in monitoring and education.
The event will open with remarks from Professor Dr. Michael Otto, founder of the Aid by Trade Foundation. Across two days, attendees will engage in panel discussions, keynote speeches, and workshops led by international experts in sustainability and cashmere production.
Targeting stakeholders across the textiles value chain - ranging from cashmere producers and fashion brands to NGOs and sustainability standards organizations - the conference promises actionable insights and opportunities for collaboration.
The Good Cashmere Standard stands as a testament to AbTF’s broader mission to promote sustainable raw materials worldwide. Alongside initiatives like Cotton made in Africa and the Regenerative Cotton Standard, GCS demonstrates how verified standards can drive measurable improvements for people, animals, and the planet.
With over 50 leading fashion brands using GCS-verified cashmere and a growing network of participating farms, the standard underscores the potential for sustainability to redefine global textile production.
