SAS Textiles, a Los Angeles based knitting specialist in fashion apparel, is launching its new SAS Sport line of synthetic performance fabrics developed for today’s athletic, outdoor, and lifestyle customers.
The circular knitter will use its wide range of equipment to offer a fully merchandised line of performance apparel knits including fine-gauge stretch fabrics, technical top weights, and novelties for post-workout comfort.
Knitting capabilities
The company stocks around 3 million pounds of yarn, including premium synthetics with unique performance attributes, from domestic and NAFTA/CAFTA qualified suppliers. Eco-friendly fibres, including recycled polyester, organic and recycled cotton, and Tencel, are also featured.
“Our knitting capabilities, including single and double jerseys, stripers, electronic jacquards, mini-jacs, fleeces, terries, and sweater knits, allow us to create performance fabrics that go beyond the basics, including hard-to-find structures such as meshes and spacers,” explained Sean Sassourian, company President and CEO. “We are fully engaged in innovation.”
Made in USA fabrics
In addition, SAS is a partner in a cut-and-sew facility in Tijuana, Mexico, which is capable of shipping around 50,000 sportswear pieces per week, made from SAS fabrics.
“Our made-in-the-USA fabrics are ideal for CAFTA programmes as well as for super-quick turns at our Tijuana facility, which is only 100 miles away from our headquarters,” added Uwe Heintel at SAS. “Brands and retailers today want to work closer to season, and can’t deal with the increasing costs of shipping, lost time, and compliance issues implicit in overseas supply chains.”
Founded in 1992, SAS Textiles is a privately-held circular knitter and provider of textiles and finished apparel for the fashion and performance apparel trades. With approximately 80 employees, the company currently has 133 circular knitting machines, capable of producing half a million pounds per week at full capacity.
