Archroma is introducing two new metal and halogen-free* acid dyes to its Nylosan S range.

Dark shades represent approximately 80% of the outdoor and sportswear textile market, which is under pressure to offer more sustainable articles. As such, the new Nylosan Navy S-3R and Black S-3N, especially developed by Archroma for nylons and blends, meet long-standing market demands.

The Nylosan S range offers alternatives to dyes generally used to dye nylon and which usually contain metals. The two new dyes take the industry standard a step further by offering a halogen-free option.

The full Nylosan S range now comprises a wide gamut of colours, with these new dyes targeting the colour matching and fastness specifications of the blacks and navies of major sportswear brands. In order to support this colour matching process, Archroma makes the colorimetric dye primaries available for the mills to match the colour standards.

The new navy and black dyes display the same colour constancy as the dyes used in many leading colour standards, which means the colours created will be non-metameric to the colour standard under multiple light sources, whether artificial or natural, indoor or outdoor.

Both dyes have high fastness and buildup, and a wide shading gamut for industry-leading metal-free acid dyes. They are REACH registered and bluesign approved.

Creating durable dark colours on nylon is also a complex process that uses massive amounts of water and energy. Archroma’s new Consciously Deep system allows a highly efficient scour dyeing process to be reduced from six to two baths.

This results in reducing the process time by up to 36%, water consumption by up to 64%, energy by up to 46%, and CO2 emissions by up to 41% compared to the conventional benchmark process.
