Liberty Hill, Texas based TKM Studio (aka The Knitting Mill), has launched a range of knitted masks for the general public, using the company’s Shima Seiki WHOLEGARMENT knitting technology. Company owner Mike Caird, a native Scot, and highly skilled Shima Seiki programmer, decided to develop his own product range to in an effort to provide solutions during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Over the past two months Shima Seiki, the leading Japanese flat knitting machine builder, has released knitting data for mask production to its global customer base. Many Shima Seiki users have since modified the data to suit their plants, available yarns and target markets. However, Mike Caird decided to develop his own data from scratch in order to offer masks that both provide comfort and fit in with the company’s usual range of luxury crafted accessories.

“Unlike other knitters that modified our data, our friend and former colleague, Michael Caird from TKM Studio (aka The Knitting Mill) based Liberty Hill, Texas, developed his own knitting data to create masks for the general public on his SWG-V 7gg knitting machines,” Shima Seiki USA said on its blog yesterday.

TKM Studio has been specializing in knitted accessories in Central Texas for nearly 10 years, crafting knitted items such as hats, gloves, scarves for well-known high-end designers. The company is using its 35 years of knitting experience in bringing comfort in a difficult time, with well-fitting washable masks featuring a slot for a filter insert.
