Brugnoli, an Italian mill that creates premium circular knit fabrics for swimwear, lingerie, sportswear, athleisure, and ready-to-wear, has been recognised for its swimwear collection using Lycra Xtra Life with the 2016 Designer of the Year Award this year.

The Interfilière Paris award saluted the company’s ongoing commitment to creating increasingly technical and sophisticated fabrics and recognised the importance of Brugnoli Swimwear Collection, made in partnership with Invista’s Lycra brand, the company’s primary stretch fibre supplier.

According to the company, swimwear made with Lycra Xtra Life fibre can last up to 10 times longer than fabrics made with untreated elastane, providing a comfortable, lasting fit and protecting fibres from damage caused by chlorine, sunscreen, UV rays, and body oils.

Quality fabric

Founded by two brothers in 1952, Brugnoli is renowned internationally for its creativity and its speciality lies especially in the jacquard fabrics that they company has been developing for over 40 years. Invista, owner of the Lycra brand, is Brugnoli’s primary stretch fibre supplier, and Lycra fibre has provided added value to the company’s fabrics for more than 27 years.

“For us, creating a quality fabric is a balance among imagination, experience, passion, feeling and a careful research and selection of the best yarns and raw materials. That is why we’ve specified Lycra fibre instead of generic elastane in our premium collections,” commented Massimiliano Denna, CEO of Brugnoli.

“When creating fabrics with Lycra fibre, our goal is to guarantee added value to our fabrics and achieve the perfect elasticity that suits the apparel end use. With over 200 differentiated fibres to choose from, Lycra fibre makes it possible for us to meet our customer’s needs across many segments. They also appreciate the consumer appeal of the Lycra brand name, which our customers know they can leverage to drive purchases in store.”

Collaboration and common values

Brugnoli and Invista share core values, such as commitment to high quality and a focus on continuous improvement and innovation. This, Invista explains, has resulted in a very successful collaborative relationship that benefited both companies over the years.

“The relationship between Brugnoli and Lycra fibre is similar to that of an artist and a muse,” said Mauro Bellani, Invista Sales Manager Warp Knitting and Narrows, EMEA. “The appealing attributes of Lycra fibre inspire Brugnoli’s creative team to push the limits of their imagination, which results in beautiful cutting-edge fabrics that are works of art.”
